The Basics

What exactly is a CSP or BC point?

A Customer Service Point is a small, authorised banking outlet run by a local entrepreneur on behalf of a bank. A Business Correspondent is the person or agency appointed to deliver those services. In everyday language, people call it a mini bank, Bank Mitra or Grahak Seva Kendra.

The idea comes from the Reserve Bank of India’s financial inclusion framework, which allows banks to appoint retail outlets to reach villages, small towns and neighbourhoods where a full branch is not practical. You handle everyday banking — cash withdrawals, deposits, transfers, account opening and bill payments — using a laptop, a printer, an internet connection and a biometric scanner.

You earn a commission on the transactions you process. The bank keeps custody of the money and the compliance rules; you provide the location, the equipment and the service.

A local outlet

A small shop or counter in your own area, working under a bank’s authorisation.

Commission based

You are paid per transaction and per service by the bank, as per its published rates.

Serves your community

Neighbours, farmers and small traders bank close to home instead of travelling.

Low setup

A modest space plus basic equipment — far less than any conventional franchise.

What You Can Offer

Services you can run from your banking point

Once your outlet is live, these are the services customers will come to you for. The exact list depends on the bank you are appointed under.

AEPS Withdrawals

Aadhaar Enabled Payment System — customers withdraw cash, check balances and get mini statements using only a fingerprint.

Micro ATM Services

Card-based cash withdrawal and balance enquiry through a handheld micro ATM device linked to the bank.

Money Transfer (DMT)

Domestic money transfer so migrant workers and families can send money home instantly and safely.

Account Opening

Open savings accounts, Jan Dhan accounts and fixed or recurring deposits with full KYC at your counter.

Bill Payments & BBPS

Electricity, water, gas, broadband, DTH and mobile recharges through the Bharat Bill Payment System.

Deposits & Withdrawals

Accept cash deposits and process withdrawals for account holders within the bank’s prescribed limits.

Insurance & Pension

Enrol customers in government schemes such as PMJJBY, PMSBY and the Atal Pension Yojana.

PAN & Utility Services

PAN card applications and other citizen services, depending on what your bank and partners permit.

CMS Cash Collection

Cash management services — collecting instalments and payments on behalf of partnered institutions.

Service availability varies by bank, location and the category of appointment granted to you.

Why Bank BC

Applying alone is confusing. We make it straightforward.

Most applications stall because of a missing document, the wrong bank choice or a form filled in incorrectly. Our job is to remove those obstacles before they cost you time.

One enquiry, several options

Tell us your city and preference once. We tell you which banks are realistically taking applications in your area rather than sending you chasing one branch.

Documents done properly

We give you an exact checklist for your chosen bank, review what you send, and flag problems before your file reaches the bank.

Clear, honest process

We explain what is decided by the bank and what is not. We never promise an approval, because no intermediary can honestly guarantee one.

Setup guidance

Advice on the laptop, printer, biometric scanner and internet connection you will need, so you are not overspending on the wrong equipment.

Training on the services

Walkthroughs of AEPS, money transfer, account opening and bill payments so you are confident from your very first customer.

Support after go-live

Questions do not stop on day one. Reach our team for help with settlements, technical issues and service queries as you grow.

Common Questions

Answers before you apply

A Business Correspondent is the person or agency the bank appoints to provide banking services on its behalf. A Customer Service Point is the physical outlet where those services are delivered. In practice the two words are used interchangeably, and people also call it a Bank Mitra, mini bank or Grahak Seva Kendra.

You need a dedicated space, but it does not have to be owned by you. A rented shop, cabin or room of roughly 100 to 150 square feet is normally acceptable, provided you can produce a valid rent agreement and the location suits the bank’s requirements for that area.

It depends entirely on the bank, the completeness of your documents and whether that bank is currently expanding in your area. Some applications move quickly, others take considerably longer or are not taken forward at all. We will keep you updated at each stage, but we cannot control or predict the bank’s internal timeline.

No, and you should be cautious of anyone who says otherwise. Bank BC is an independent service provider. The decision to appoint a CSP or Business Correspondent belongs solely to the bank or its authorised Corporate BC. What we can do is make sure your application is complete, accurate and submitted through the correct channel.

Your main costs are the space, the equipment (computer, printer, biometric scanner, internet) and your working cash float. The amount varies widely by location and by how much of this you already own, so we will not quote a figure until we understand your situation. Any security deposit is set by the bank, not by us.

You earn a commission on the transactions and services you process, at rates published by the bank you are appointed under. Earnings depend on your footfall, your location and the mix of services you offer. We will not quote guaranteed monthly income figures, because nobody can responsibly promise that.

Many banks require Business Correspondent agents to hold certification from the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance. Where it applies, it can usually be completed during or after the selection process. We will tell you whether your chosen bank asks for it.

We work with a wide range of institutions — public sector banks such as SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank and Union Bank of India; private banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and IDFC FIRST Bank; small finance banks; and payments banks such as India Post Payments Bank, Airtel Payments Bank and Fino Payments Bank. Which of them is actually appointing in your district changes over time, so tell us your pincode and we will tell you the current position.
